The Institute of Transportation Engineers (ITE) is an international professional society of more than 11,000 transportation engineers, planners, and others responsible for the safe and efficient movement of people and goods on our streets, highways, and transit systems.

ITE is divided into ten Districts worldwide to better serve its members. The Illinois Section is part of District 4, which encompasses eleven states in the Midwest. Within District 4, there are four sections:

Governor Quinn Announces $8.3 Million Project to Revitalize Roosevelt Road - Project to Support 108 Jobs, Increase Safety, Improve Street Design and Traffic Flow
CHICAGO – September 3, 2010. Governor Pat Quinn today joined Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) Secretary Gary Hannig and local officials to break ground on a project that will improve a key segment of Roosevelt Road between Austin Avenue and Harlem Avenue. The $8.3 million project will improve traffic flow and pedestrian safety, and is expected to create or retain approximately 108 jobs.

CHICAGO – Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) Secretary Gary Hannig today announced that Illinois along with the other Lake Michigan Interstate Gateway Alliance (LMIGA) partners are launching a new travel website to enhance services provided by the Gateway Traveler Information System. Formerly known as the Gary-Chicago-Milwaukee (GCM) Priority Corridor found at www.gcmtravel.com, the new state-of-the-art website located at www.travelmidwest.com includes several enhancements to provide valuable traveler information to serve the needs of motorists and the LMIGA partners. The traveler information coverage extends from Southern Wisconsin through Northern Illinois and Northern Indiana into Southwestern Michigan.

SPRINGFIELD – August 31, 2010. Governor Pat Quinn joined Illinois Department of Transportation(IDOT) Secretary Gary Hannig and other officials today to announce a three-year construction project to improve safety and traffic congestion at the intersection of Clear Lake Avenue and Dirksen Parkway. The project, which is part of Governor Quinn’s Illinois Jobs Now! capital program, is expected to create or retain 143 jobs in the Springfield area.

JOLIET – August 25, 2010. Governor Pat Quinn joined Illinois Department of Transportation Secretary Gary Hannig and other officials today to announce a major project to reconstruct the interchange at Interstate 55 and Arsenal Road. The project is funded through the <i>Illinois Jobs Now!</i> capital construction plan and is expected to create or retain nearly 900 jobs.

Data Shows Alcohol-Involved Motor Vehicle Fatalities Have Declined in Illinois - Stronger Enforcement, Increased Safety Belt Usage Credited for the Reduction
CHICAGO – The Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT), Division of Traffic Safety today released data showing a lower number of alcohol-involved, motor vehicle fatalities in Illinois. The reduction in alcohol-involved fatalities has occurred steadily since 2002 with the largest decline occurring between 2007 and 2008.
