Please join us on Thursday, October 12th for our October Luncheon, a presentation by the Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) on current roundabout projects within Region/District 1.
Modern Roundabouts have been gradually gaining acceptance as an alternative for intersection design in the state of Illinois within the last decade. As a result, IDOT Region 1 has programmed numerous roundabout projects, which are currently either in Phase 1 or Phase 2 engineering and will be entering the construction phase soon.
Please come join us to learn more about these exciting projects as they move towards construction.
ITE is honored to host Ms. Kimberly Murphy and Mr. Carlos Feliciano from IDOT as the event's speakers.
Kimberly Murphy is the Consultant Studies Unit Head for the Illinois Department of Transportation's Bureau of Programming. In this capacity she has been responsible for the preliminary engineering and environmental studies for 160 projects and received design approval for 110. Kimberly is currently overseeing 48 Phase I studies totaling $2.8 billion in construction costs including multiple Environmental Impact Statements and Environmental Assessments. She is the IDOT project manager for the North Lake Shore Drive Phase I study. In her many positions at IDOT, Kimberly has garnered extensive experience in all facets of transportation project development. Kimberly was the Bureau of Programming's Engineer of the Year in 2008. Kimberly is an Illinois licensed engineer, and received her Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.
Carlos Feliciano works for the Illinois Department of Transportation, in the Project and Environmental Studies Section as the In-House Studies Unit Head. Carlos is a licensed engineer in Illinois and Michigan with a bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Puerto Rico and has over 15 years of experience in transportation projects. He is the Bikeway and ADA Coordinator for IDOT's District I which encompasses Chicago and the surrounding collar counties. His main duties consist of engineering studies for intersection, bridge and accessibility improvements. Carlos has worked on various modern roundabout improvements in the District I area. He worked on converting the existing 5 legged traffic circle at Illinois Route 58 at Wolf Road, State and Broadway Streets known as the Cumberland Circle in the City of Des Plaines into a modern roundabout. Carlos has worked on other innovative transportation systems such as the first protected bike lane in the State system along Clybourn Ave in Chicago and is currently working on a safety improvement consisting of a superstreet intersection design, also known as a Restricted Crossing U-Turn (RCUT) intersection. Carlos is part of IDOT's Professional Development Cadre and has taught Roundabout Design classes and currently teaches the ADA/PROWAG District Training and the Phase I Process Overview classes.
